Desktop Module
An organization’s environment is a maze of information where disparate applications and data sources may not be connected and searchable. In fact for many, the most valuable information is not stored in corporate repositories, but instead on individual users’ desktops. To alleviate the problem of fragmented information, a unified desktop and enterprise information optimization is required. Users need a single access point to all data, whether it is stored on their desktops, within email, in enterprise-wide applications or in third-party licensed content.
The Velocity Desktop Search Module extends the power of the Vivisimo Velocity Platform by supporting Windows Search technologies, including the integrated desktop search capabilities in Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7. By using the add-on module, users can seamlessly access and manipulate search results across Windows desktop environments as well as multiple applications and databases.
Traditionally, desktop search results from Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 are viewed through a Windows interface, like the desk bar, start menu, or Explorer. Now, by extending the underlying Windows Search platform, users can see aggregated search results from the desktop alongside results from other enterprise applications and data sources searched by Velocity. Through Velocity, search results are displayed in neatly organized topical categories, or clusters, for enhanced navigation.
Windows Desktop Search is easily managed and deployed at the administrative level, allowing for a highly secure and configurable solution. Windows Desktop Search indexes more than 200 of the most common file types including .doc, .xml, .pdf, .xls, and .ppt in multiple languages.
