22 September 2005Vivisimo Wins FirstGov Contract to Build Next-Generation Search PortalVivisimo and MSN Search to Provide Search Backbone for Redesigned FirstGov Portal; Award-Winning Velocity Platform to Bring the Power of Federated Search and Clustering to FirstGov UsersPittsburgh, PA—Vivisimo (www.vivisimo.com), the creator of innovative software to access and cluster the world's information for better search and discovery, today announced that it has been selected to provide enhanced search results for the FirstGov Web portal at www.usa.gov. FirstGov will include government news and image search as new user features. As the official portal of the United States Government, FirstGov is visited every year by millions of citizens, non-profit organizations, businesses and federal employees. As part of the agreement, Vivisimo teamed with Microsoft's MSN Search Web service to provide search results for the government domain. The MSN Search Web service includes extensive coverage of government documents in its index as well as a rich set of filtering-related operators. Vivisimo will leverage its Velocity software and Clusty Web search platforms to selectively crawl and metasearch federal and local government-related content and cluster the combined MSN Search and Vivisimo results for easier navigation by FirstGov users. "Ever since our initial funding by the National Science Foundation, Vivisimo has sought to help the public sector improve its core search functions," said Raul Valdes-Perez, CEO and co-founder of Vivisimo. "Together with Microsoft, we will build the finest government search portal the world has seen, helping citizens learn and profit from the rich information offered across thousands of government Web sites." "MSN Search is dedicated to helping people quickly access the information most relevant to them on the Web and we're thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Vivisimo so that the millions of people searching from www.usa.gov and over 800 other Federal Web sites get the information they need," says Christopher Payne, corporate vice president, MSN Search at Microsoft. "Microsoft and Vivisimo will enable citizens, businesses and federal employees to search efficiently across millions of Government Web pages." Vivisimo has a history of providing better search and discovery for consumers of government information. In early 2005, Vivisimo's consumer search engine, Clusty.com, introduced a government search tab at gov.clusty.com which lets users search and cluster political news, government information sites (including FirstGov), think tanks and large public documents, such as the 2006 Federal Budget and the 9/11 Commission Report.
