Austrian Trade Commission to Visit Vivisimo

Pittsburgh, PA— Vivisimo, Inc., a global provider of advanced document clustering (automatic categorization) and content integration software, announced that the Austrian Trade Commission will visit Vivisimo on September 13, 2002 to learn about successful technology commercialization.

The Austrian Trade Commission organized a group of 25 delegates to visit the U.S. and learn about trends and issues in economic development. The group will tour Pittsburgh and Boston from September 7-14th and consists of government officials, presidents and deans of universities, business executives, and news media. They identified Vivisimo and Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Akamai (NASDAQ: AKAM) as the university information technology spin-offs that they wish to learn about.

"Our delegation wants to learn from companies that have successfully commercialized a technology by utilizing both community and university resources," stated Peter Gatscha, from the Austrian Trade Commission. "We look forward to our visit with Vivisimo because they have had international success with their technology and they have utilized public economic development resources."

"The transition of Vivisimo from a university research project to an enterprise software company has been very successful," stated Tony Philipp, European President of Vivisimo. "It was made possible by a combination of factors such as financial funding from public sources, and a great talent pool of world leading scientists and experienced business executives. Although, none of this would have been possible, without a world leading product: The Vivisimo Clustering Engine."

Vivisimo's core technology is the result of four years of research by top computer scientists, previously of Carnegie Mellon University's top-ranked computer science department. The company spun out of the University in June of 2000 and has received investments from Innovation Works (a publicly funded venture capital organization that invests in technology startups in Southwestern Pennsylvania) and several SBIR (Small Business Innovation Research) grants from the National Science Foundation.
