Norwegian Knowledge Centre for Health Services and National Library of Medicine Go Live with Velocity
Leading Medical Organizations Using Velocity to Provide Quick and Easy Access to Medical Information
Pittsburgh, PA—Vivisimo (vivisimo.com), a leading provider of enterprise search software and expertise, today announced that the National Library of Medicine (NLM) and the Norwegian Knowledge Centre (NOKC) for Health Services have gone live with their deployments of the Vivisimo Velocity enterprise search platform. Vivisimo has empowered both organizations to adapt Velocity to meet the specific needs of their site visitors with the goal of providing quick and easy access to medical information.
Based in Oslo, Norway, the NOKC gathers and disseminates evidence about the effect and quality of methods and interventions within all parts of the health services. The NOKC site, Helsebiblioteket (www.helsebiblioteket.no), provides nationwide access to medical journals, databases and other content resources relevant to healthcare personnel. As part of its customization of Velocity, the NOKC created a toggle so site users can identify their role and immediately get results most relevant to their current need. Additionally, the NOKC has given users a variety of ways to navigate through search results. Visitors to the site can browse topics through clustering or drill down into practice areas or sources. The site also displays multi-lingual results in Norwegian, English and Dutch.
"Velocity empowered us with the flexibility to tailor the search experience for our site visitors, giving them quick and easy access to vital medical information," said Kjell Tjensvoll, consortium manager, Norwegian Knowledge Centre for the Health Services. "We anticipate a big increase in our usage statistics because we are making important information much easier to find. Our goal is to provide tools that are practical and deliver results fast enough to be useful in a clinical context."
The NLM, the world's largest biomedical library, customized Velocity by adding spotlights of health topics that relate to the search query above the search results. The spotlights provide searchers with a consistent frame of reference and definition of the highlighted disease, condition or wellness issue. Additionally, the NLM allows visitors to navigate results by the different collections they support such as Medline Plus and Online Exhibits with folders on the left.
"With Velocity, we've accomplished our objective to provide a search experience that mirrors the quality that NLM users have come to expect," said Joyce Backus, deputy chief of NLM's Public Services Division. "NLM is proud to bring this search to site visitors so they can quickly find the most pertinent health information."
"Vivisimo is proud to see Velocity contribute to the well being of thousands of users around the world through quick and easy access to medical information," said Raul Valdes-Perez, CEO of Vivisimo. "The Norwegian Knowledge Centre and the National Library of Medicine are thriving due in part to Velocity's flexibility to meet the specific needs of each site's visitors. As a company, we are pleased with the inroads we've made within the global medical community highlighted by the recent successes of these two remarkable organizations."
