American Society of Mechanical Engineers Deploys Vivisimo Velocity

ASME Goes Live with a new asme.org Search Engine Powered by Vivisimo's Search and Clustering Technology

Pittsburgh, PA—Vivisimo (vivisimo.com), the creator of innovative software to access and cluster the world's information for better search and discovery, today announced that the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) has launched a new asme.org search engine with Vivisimo Velocity as its enterprise search platform. With Velocity, ASME is leveraging existing assets to search and combine the company's internal content management system, products catalog, and other Web content while presenting all results organized into easy-to-navigate folders. Now, thousands of asme.org users will have access to multiple content sources searchable from a single, user-friendly interface.

In the past, asme.org's integrated search allowed the organization to combine results from multiple ASME Web sites into a combined search resource. However, as ASME Web usage grew, it needed a search solution that could easily integrate with the organization's new content management system, provide faster and more accurate indexing, and full management features and reporting capabilities.

"Over the past year, ASME reviewed several search vendors, including Google, Autonomy and Verity, to compare their capabilities and value," said Virgil Carter, executive director of ASME. "Vivisimo Velocity's full range of features has enabled us to choose a search solution that is more conducive to ASME members and the engineering and technical community."

ASME is using all three components of Vivisimo Velocity—search, federated search and clustering. Combined, Velocity enables ASME to index five times more content with increased accuracy, flexibility and realize a greater return on investment. In addition, Vivisimo Velocity will allow ASME to index its content management systems with minimum reconfiguration, allowing Web site programming to remain streamlined and stable.

"With Velocity, information-intensive organizations like ASME can leverage all their information repositories while combining the results in a way that makes the content easy to explore and user friendly," said Raul Valdes-Perez, CEO at Vivisimo. "ASME's new search portal gives users better access to valuable but untapped or under-utilized sources, all from a single search box. Customers like ASME turn to us because they want an enterprise search solution that makes the most of their content and resources and offers a user experience that parallels the very best consumer search engines."
