The underlying architecture of the Velocity Search Platform makes it possible to provide unified and secure access to content across the entire universe of enterprise data repositories and information sources. A multitude of configuration options allow administers the ability to maximize relevancy of search results. And built for the most challenging of information environments, Velocity can scale to meet the demands of tens of thousands of users reliably.
Relevancy
If relevant results aren't obvious, users will leave the search screen frustrated that they have not found what they need. To maximize user satisfaction, Velocity allows administrators to modify relevancy rankings by a number of parameters to include word proximity, synonyms, source, link analysis, freshness and more. Velocity offers a multitude of additional relevancy features that can be configured by administrators to help better lead users to the best results, such as incorporating user votes or ratings of content, routing queries to specific data sources, a key match feature that ties the query to a set of predefined results and the ability to expand queries to account for misspellings, alternative translations and synonyms. Administrators also the ability to spotlight content by searching special collections and placing matching results prominently above the full result set and allow the promotion of unrelated content such as company announcements above search results.
Connectivity
Velocity can find, extract and index content no matter what format it is in or where it resides. Administrators have access to a library of pre-built connectors and a universal connect in order to index content and data from common data repositories such as individual desktops, file shares, databases, email systems, content management and collaboration systems, customer relationship management applications, email archives and other archival solutions, among others. In addition, content from third-party feeds, subscriptions and other search engines can be added via federation. All of this functionality is managed from a web-based administrative interface that is as intuitive and easy to navigate for administrators as the search interface is for users.
Security
Search engine security is one of the most challenging problems for enterprises and the complexity of the problem makes it critical not only to do it right, but also requires an approach for that takes into account the existing security framework within a given environment. Velocity has the ability to mirror a pre-existing security framework and makes use of industry-standard authentication and authorization processes already in place. This decreases the complexity of the implementation, the need for synchronization and consequently, the risk of errors. Velocity supports the widest variety of search security models available in the market in order to ensure a secure solution without degrading application performance.
Scalability and Reliability
In information intensive environments, no one application contains all of the data business users need to access on a daily basis. New content is created every minute, yet old content is rarely purged, resulting in terabytes of data for large or information intensive environments requiring a search solution that is both highly scalable and reliable. With Velocity, administrators can address these requirements by easily replicating instances of a single index across multiple services — allowing for 99.99% up time. If one server crashes, the second or third server storing a copy of that index will fulfill the search request. Velocity also allows administrators to quickly segment an index onto multiple servers for maximum application performance in high usage, data intensive scenarios. Both replication and segmentation of indexes are accomplished through a simple point-and-click via a web interface — taking mere minutes to configure. In addition, Velocity can index terabytes of information, producing an index a fraction of the original data size.
